SBCC Is Integral Part of the Malaria Global Strategic Framework

Friday, July 29, 2011

Consultative meeting on the SBCC global strategic framework for malaria preventionA group of implementing partners engaged in social and behavior change communication (SBCC) for malaria prevention and control met in Nairobi, Kenya, July 26–27, for an important consultative meeting on a Five-Year Global Strategic Framework for Malaria SBCC at the Country Level.

C-Change hosted the meeting and took the lead in facilitating it. This is the second in a series of consultations that seek to develop guidelines on best practice in SBCC at country level for malaria control and prevention and chart out a research, implementation, and evaluation agenda for Roll Back Malaria (RBM) partners, donor organizations, and national malaria control programs.

When completed, the framework’s strategic vision will include SBCC goals and objectives, a research agenda, and guidance on SBCC best practices and resource needs over the next five years. Results of this meeting will inform the draft of the framework, to be finalized and distributed by the RBM Partnership in fall 2011.

More than 40 people from 12 countries came together for the meeting, including representatives from national malaria control programs, C-Change, PSI, Malaria No More, JHU-CCP, Mentor, RBM Partnership Secretariat, the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), country-based NGOs Health Partners and Equip-Liberia, and the US President's Malaria Initiative (PMI).
