C-Change Assists SAT Network to Increase SBCC Knowledge and Skills

Sunday, March 7, 2010

C-Change led a participatory learning workshop on social and behavior change communication (SBCC) programming with Southern African AIDS Trust (SAT) in January-February 2010. Twenty-three participants from Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe attended the 10-day workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Participants at the SAT training take place in a participatory exerciseC-Change used its SBCC Learning Package in this workshop to further strengthen SAT’s organizational and programming capacity in SBCC and use of participatory facilitation skills.

C-Change and SAT have partnered to assist SAT’s overall goal to build the competence of its partners and communities by creating more effective, sustainable community responses to HIV and AIDS. SAT has a strong system of partnerships from the national level down to the grass roots— having supported over 250 partners in southern Africa (Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) from Johannesburg headquarters. It is a regional leader in grant-making, networking, skills exchange, and lesson-sharing.

In December 2009, C-Change assessed the SBCC needs of SAT headquarters staff and three of their country offices using the  SBCC Capacity Assessment Tool. A third training for SAT staff on the Evaluation and Re-planning module of the SBCC Learning Package is planned for the coming months.
