USAID supports the Secretariat for the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing (PPPHW) through C-Change.
PPPHW is bringing together leading donors, private-sector companies, academic institutions, and NGOs to increase handwashing with soap around the world and reduce diarrhea and acute respiratory infections that kill more than 3.6 million children under age 5 annually. Washing hands with soap at critical moments is a basic step that everyone can take to prevent these diseases.
The PPPHW promotes handwashing through Global Handwashing Day and other global initiatives and supports large-scale handwashing programs. In addition to being the go-to resource on handwashing promotion for organizations and individuals working on sanitation and hygiene programs around the world, PPPHW provides handwashing guidance, tools, and case studies. It carries out programs in Benin, Colombia, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal, Nicaragua, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam.
